It’s what’s up Wednesday with Sheaffer & Shay! I’m sharing a little about what’s been going on around here this month.

What We’re Eating this Week
After several busy weeks in a row, we are finally able to enjoy a week of eating at home. I’ve been craving salads lately, but my regular spinach salad has gotten boring. On Sunday, I made my favorite Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad and plan to eat it for lunch every day this week.
Here’s what’s on our dinner menu for the week:
- Monday: Steaks on the grill. Yay for 70 degree weather in February!!
- Tuesday: Spaghetti and Meatballs
- Wednesday: Sheet Pan Chicken and Veggies
- Thursday: Pizza Night
- Friday: We are hosting some friends and I’m making Italian Sub Squares.
What I’m Reminiscing About
We had a taste of warm weather this week and I can’t stop thinking about spring. I guess I’m reminiscing on last year and looking forward to the next season. Just for fun, here’s a picture of one of the beautiful flowers from our garden last year. Fingers crossed we have the same luck this year!
What I’m Loving…
My youngest, a 2nd grader, was really struggling with anxiety this winter. He was feeling sick almost every day on the way to school. After several days of him actually getting sick before walking in the door, we knew something was up. He finally shared that his stomach was hurting because he was nervous about going to school.
After multiple attempts to talk to him and work with his teacher with no success, I knew I had to find another solution. He’s not a big talker, so I looked for a journal for him. I came across the Big Life Journal for Kids and decided to go for it. Friends, it CHANGED OUR MORNINGS!
I can’t believe how quickly his mood changed when going to school with this journal. The simple act of writing his feelings down did wonders for him. The journal has pages for him to write down things he loves and helps him write about emotions. It also has strategies for him to use when he is feeling upset or worried. There are daily journal prompts for him to complete that highlight the best part of his day. The daily prompts also let him share how he felt and why.
I’ll do a whole post on this soon. For now, I’m sharing a couple of pages so you can get a little peek at the layouts. I cannot recommend this journal enough! There are several options for kids, teens, and even adults.
What We’ve Been Up To
All the kids’ events. Between soccer, baseball prep, cub scouts, and all the other school events popping up, this family has been BUSY! I feel like we are constantly driving our kids from one thing to the next. Check out these amazing cars from our pinewood derby last weekend. I love the creativity that each kiddo put into their cars. The whole family had fun watching them race.
What I’m Dreading
March! It’s the longest month of the year with no days off from school. It also seems to be a very busy time for me at work. Here’s hoping the days pass quickly.
What I’m Excited About
Call me crazy, but getting things organized makes me happy. We have successfully kept our homework organized since the start of the year and my momma heart is so happy about that. To hear how we do it around here, check out this post.
What I’m Watching/Reading/Listening To
Two of my favorite romance authors, Rebecca Yarros and Melissa Foster, had new books out this month. I read/listen to them the second I could get my hands on them.
- Reason to Believe by Rebecca Yarros
- Falling for Mr. Bad by Melissa Foster
I have to say I liked Rebecca’s new book more than I liked the one by Melissa Foster. I just couldn’t fall in love with the characters this time. If you want to check Melissa out, I highly recommend the Dark Knights series (start with this one). I love a little spice in my books. I would say this one is rated R.
What I’m Doing This Weekend
I’m soaking up all the quality time I can with my kids. We finally have a weekend with no big plans, so I’ll be doing whatever is on their list! We have been really into playing board games lately. So much that I did a whole post on our favorites. You can check those out in this post!
What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month
Spring Break! We are heading on vacation the first week of April and I can not wait. I’ll be back in this very spot in just a few weeks.
