10 Life-Saving Travel Items You Need To Purchase Today

Today I’m sharing about my favorite travel items for moms and really anyone who is in the car a lot. As a working mom, your car is most likely more than just a way to get from one place to another. It doubles as your office, your temporary daycare, your place for a little peace and quiet, and a storage area for a the kid activities.

When our schedules are busy, the last thing we want is to be caught in an emergency without the things we need. Whether your car battery dies, your kid gets stung by a bee at the park, or you get stranded on the side of the road, having a few key travel items on hand can help save your sanity and keep you and your family safe.

Here are my top 10 life-saving travel items that make life a little easier (and safer). Buy one for yourself, or give them as gifts for everyone in your family!

Top 10 Travel Items

Portable Battery Jumper: Getting stuck with a dead battery can really mess with your schedule. Keeping a portable battery jumper in your car saves time and can get you back up and running in just a minute or two. They are so easy to use and can last for several jumps before needing to be charged again. This one also has a flashlight to use in case of an emergency.

LifeVac Home Kit: Choking is one of my biggest fears, especially with small children. This device has mask sizes for all ages and can help dislodge objects easily when someone is choking. I keep one in my house and one in my car in case of emergency. It’s a must-have travel item for everyone.

Portable Door Lock: These locks add an extra safety measure when traveling on a road trip or staying in an unfamiliar place. I bought one to use when I stay in hotels for work, but I now keep one in my car to give me extra peace of mind when using restrooms in new places with my kids, like rest stops or gas station bathrooms.

Disposable Urinals: Perfect for times when you’re on the road with no bathroom in sight. They are portable, absorb the liquid instantly and are great to use in emergencies like getting stuck in traffic or being out at a park or event with no bathroom.

Car Hammer: This great little tool can cut seatbelts or break windows in the event of an emergency, allowing you and your family to get out quickly. We keep one in every car at all times.

Fire Extinguishing Spray: This little can will put out small fires before they become dangerous. It’s easier to use than a bulky fire extinguisher and can be life-saving when you’re on the road or camping.

First Aid Kit: Keeping a well-stocked first aid kit on hand helps you prepare for small injuries or bigger accidents while you’re on the road.

Solar-Powered Backup Charger: This charger is great in case of an emergency because it allows you to charge your phone without having to be plugged in to an electrical outlet. They are especially helpful if you have a dead car battery or are away from power for an extended period of time.

Sting-Kill: Whether you’re in the parking lot at a soccer game or a rest stop on a road trip, bee stings can pop up at any time. These little sting kill kits can help ease the pain of a sting and minimize allergic reactions. Please note that these do not replace an EpiPen or something similar if your child has a life-threatening allergy.

Portable Tire Inflator: There’s nothing worse than going out to your car to see your tire is low. This tire inflator can save you time by letting you fill up wherever you are.

In addition to these life-saving travel items, I always try to keep a bag handy with some extra items I know we night need. We keep this on our car, but change it out every few months or so to ensure that the food hasn’t expired and the clothes still fit and are appropriate for the season. We end up using the blankets a LOT, so I keep them in the same place so I remember to wash them when I’m swapping out snacks and clothes.

  • Water and snacks
  • Small blankets
  • A flashlight and extra batteries
  • Change of clothes for the kids

I hope this gives you some great ideas for what to keep in your car to make sure you and your family stay safe on the road. If you have additional travel items or a road trip packing list you can’t live without, please leave them in the comments!
