Let’s Look: Little Things We Do Every Single Day

Happy Wednesday! I’m loving the Let’s Look topics that Shay and Erika came up with for this year. For those of you who are new here, those lovely ladies host a link up party every month where we can all share a little bit about our lives. Today’s topic is, little things we do every day.

I’m one of those people who adores a good routine. I tend to do the same things at the same time every day. It helps me say focused on the tasks I need to complete and keeps me calm. Our family schedule is so busy most days, I have to set boundaries and be intentional about my time to find a work-life balance that works for me. Finding little pockets of time throughout my day to focus on my needs has helped me manage the chaos a little bit better.

Here are a few little things that I do just for me every single day..

Morning Focus Time

Quiet time is my favorite form of self-care. I try to wake up 30 minutes before the kids so I can savor that first cup of coffee. I’m not a morning person, so that little bit of time to myself helps me focus. That way, I’m ready for what comes when the house wakes up. Then, every day after the kids go to school, I take at least 30 minutes to just relax and practice a little self-care. Some days I will read a book. Other days I will do a stretching routine or a quick mindfulness activity. I know that time alone will be hard to find the rest of the day, so I take advantage when I can.

Read a Book

I almost always have two books going at a time. One that helps me grow my skills or knowledge in some way, and one to help me escape. Most days, I listen to audio books. They are wonderful because I can listen while I do things around the house. Reading/listening while I do mundane tasks makes the time go by fast. It’s also much more entertaining to fold laundry while listening to a good romance novel.

Spend Time Outside

I work from home most days. It can be so easy to sit downstairs in my office and never look up. Finding time to go outside and get fresh air energizes me. Some days I take a walk around the neighborhood. When the weather is nice, I spend some time in my yard. I took the picture above of my butterfly bushes last spring. One of my favorite things to do is go out and just observe. From March through September, I can also be found in my little garden. I love taking quick breaks from work to check progress or work on my plants. Growing things makes my heart happy.

Quality Time with My Kids

Every day, I try to take at least 10-15 minutes to focus on each of my kids. I eliminate distractions (phones, electronics, etc.) and do something I know they like. We talk about our days or do an activity together. Even though I am with them most of every day, that intentional time together helps me feel more connected. This is something I started when they were little. I noticed that I heard “mom” a lot less after I took a little time to give them all of my attention.

Evening Quiet Time

My favorite time of the day is the time after the rest of the house goes to bed. I make myself a cup of tea and sit down to reflect on the day. I write down any tasks I need to complete the next day to get them out of my head. This helps keep my mind from racing when I go to bed. Some days, I also use that time to catch up on email. Other days, I give myself a few minutes to scroll through my phone or watch a quick show.

No matter what you choose to do, I encourage you to find little pockets of time for yourself throughout your day. I’d love to hear the things that you do every day in the comments!
